And shortly the museum

The museum will open shortly in a renovated building in the village centre. With a reflective and fun approach that will please children and grown-ups, it will immerse you into the heart of industrial revolution and the disruptions it caused in the Cevennes.

A museum in Vialas

The museum aims at increasing and supplementing the explanations provided on the footpath. Il will present the site in Vialas in its singularity (a mine and a silver manufacturing plant), and as an emblematic component to the European Industrial Revolution.

The approach will adapt to different audiences, both entertaining and interpretative. A first room presents the souterrain and galena. A second room presents the history of the site, in the context of the 19th century and the Industrial Revolution.  The third room is dedicated to the evolution of science and technology. A final space will host temporary exhibitions.

A collection of industrial objects

Anvil

On the Bocard site, remains of the infrastructure are carefully preserved by Vialas municipal corporation: trommel, anvils, pieces of steam machines, drain outlet, …

The Filon des Anciens association also has at its disposal a collection of objects connected with the site: silver coins, workman’s book, scientific books…

Some objects in the collection belong to individuals. Concerned about valuing them, they accept to lend them to the museum.

A shared project

The Museum project brings together four different actors and is supported by two other structures.

The town hall of Vialas owns the Museum’s building, the Bocard  site and most of the collection. The community of the municipalities from the Cévennes to Mont Lozère, which is in charge of Tourism and Culture, will carry out the project, ensuring the opening and reception of the Museum,  in shared premises. The association Le Filon des Anciens is the driving force behind the project and will be mobilized by the Communauté de Communes for scientific content.

The Lozère department, as well as the Cevennes National Park are actively involved in the project.
